The TN Visa program allows qualified Canadian and Mexican citizens to work in the United States in certain professional occupations. Created under the North American Free Trade Agreement-NAFTA.

The TN Visa provides a streamlined process for professionals to work temporarily in the U.S without needing a more complex visa.

Eligibility Requirements

To qualify for a TN Visa, applicants must be:

Citizenship: Be a citizen of Canada or Mexico.

Profession: Work in one of the professions listed in the USMCA.

Qualifications: Have the necessary qualifications, including a degree or relevant professional experience, depending on the profession.

Apply for a TN Visa: Mexican citizens must apply for a TN Visa at a U.S. Consulate before entering the U.S.

Visa Issuance and Entry: Once your visa is issued, you can enter the U.S. and begin working for your U.S. employer.

Duration of Stay

Initial Period: The TN Visa is granted for up to 3 years.

Extensions: You can apply for extensions in three-year increments with no maximum number of renewals, provided you continue to meet the requirements.

Family Members

Your spouse and unmarried children under 21 can accompany you to the U.S. under TD (Trade Dependent) status. They cannot work in the U.S. but may attend school.
